Health Workforce Directorate (HWD) has a contract with the West Coast District Health Board (WCDHB) to fund Level 8 postgraduate education for nurses on the West Coast.

As part of this process, a prioritisation strategy is utilised to make best use of the funding. HWD specifications, Ministry of Health health targets, and workforce needs inform the prioritisation strategy.
The West Coast District Health Board (WCDHB) administers funding from Health Workforce Directorate (HWD) for West Coast nurses wanting to undertake postgraduate (level 8) study toward qualifications including: certificates, diplomas, and clinical masters.
The WCDHB Nurse Manager – Workforce Development, based in Greymouth, coordinates this funding on behalf of the West Coast region.
