The West Coast DHB, the most rural in the country, intends to be a Centre of Excellence for rural health services in New Zealand. That means that we intend to use the culture of innovation and self-reliance that exists on the West Coast to develop solutions to the problems inherent in providing health services in a rural and isolated environment.
To this end the DHB is very much focused on generating innovative ideas to solve the problems we face, quality improvement processes, and reciprocal learning culture with other DHBs in which we share our ideas and learning, and learn from others.
There are many fronts on which West Coast DHB is already a leader in rural health services, and we have growing collaborations with academic and training institutions to advance and share what we learn.
